Project: Vogue 2461 (1990), Calvin Klein anorak, part 4

May 23, 2013

Readers,

I’m suffering from anorak fatigue. Jack calls it “anoraksia nervosa.” Almost every part  of this project has taken longer than I imagined.

My anorak is nearing completion.
My anorak is nearing completion.

The mystery fabric I’m using is probably cotton with some spandex in it, and it just won’t take a firm press, which has been aggravating.

But the good news is  I’m closing in.  Left to do are

  • sewing the buttonholes and buttons on the cuffs
  • sewing and installing the waist casing
  • inserting the drawstrings in the waist and hood casings
  • hemming
  • tidying up the many loose threads
Hood, without drawstring.
Hood, without drawstring.

I was attracted to this pattern partly because of the waist definition, so I’m curious to see how much the drawstring will improve the fit.

The shoulders are extended, although not to the extreme of the original 1990 style. I’m undecided whether the shoulder line looks just relaxed or sloppy.  An anorak is supposed to be loose-fitting, of course.

Well, this is still a sewing project. When it’s finished I’ll judge it as a garment. Very soon, I hope.

The goal.
The goal.
